Joint Travel Regulations Update: Revised Chapter 6 - Evacuations to Publish 8/1
The August 2017 version of the Joint Travel Regulations (JTR) will include a revised Chapter 6 on Evacuation travel. This chapter has been rewritten to use plain language, standardized terminology, and include extensive use of if/then tables in place of long paragraphs. These changes are part of the second phase of the Defense Travel Management Office’s effort to simplify policy and make the JTR easier to navigate, easier to understand, and shorter in length. Subsequent phases will address the remaining chapters and appendices.
It is important to note that the policies contained in the July 2017 version of Chapter 6 will cover all of the same travel authorities as the August version. No policies will change but may rewritten to ease understanding.
The revised Chapter 6 - Evacuations will be published in the August 2017 version of the JTR, which will be available on 1 August 2017. A preview version of Chapter 6 is available as part of the approved "Uniformed Travel Determination (UTD)/Civilian Travel Determination (CTD) 055-17(E) –Revised Joint Travel Regulations - Chapter 6 - Evacuations" posted on the Notable Travel Policy Changes webpage. This version should be used to update any JTR paragraph references in publications and training materials.
